This recipe was adapted from the “Almost-Famous Soft Pretzels” on foodnetwork.com and I changed it up a bit by adding raisins for a sweet taste. For original recipe follow the link at:  http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/almost-famous-soft-pretzels-recipe/index.html?oc=linkback

It was soooo good!

Ingredients

For the Pretzels:

1 cup milk
1 package active dry yeast
3 tablespoons white sugar
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup of melted unsalted butter for greasing
1 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup baking soda

1/2 cup of raisins
6 Servings (I was able to divide the dough evenly to get 8 servings)

Directions

1. In a saucepan warm milk to about 110 degrees.
2. Pour milk into a bowl and sprinkle yeast, then let sit for about 2 minutes.
3. Add white sugar, 1 cup of flour, raisins, 2 Tbsps of melted butter and stir.
4. Add the remainder of the flour and salt.
5. Knead dough, for 5 minutes, then let it sit in a bowl covered with plastic wrap for about 1 hour for dough to rise.
6. Preheat oven to 450 degrees and prepare a greased baking sheet.
7. Deflate dough by punching it, then place it on a lightly floured counter.
8. Divide dough into 6 pieces and roll and stretch each piece out to a long 30 inch rope and shape rope into a pretzel.
9.  Add baking soda to 3 cups of warm water in a shallow bowl.  Take each pretzel dip and place on baking sheet.
10.  Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until golden brown.
11. After baking brush with remaining unsalted butter for shine and flavor.

Glaze:

Ingredients

1/2 cup of Confectioner’s sugar
1 Tablespoon milk
1/2 Teaspoon vanilla essence

Mix all ingredients together and drizzle over pretzels as desired.
